So if you are going to play Poker or go to a casino, you just may win money and it might be a lot of money. Claiming that money needs to reported to the IRS. I'm not a CPA, so get your own information, from your tax consultant.

The idea is for a Professional Poker Player  to be able to deduct the cost of fees to play poker and write off cost, as if an expense in business.

"The cost of doing business"

When you treat  pokeras a  business the income and expense should be shown to the IRS for tax purposes. Travel, enrty fee and other expense, could be a write off.

Question is :

"How Do I Get A TIN?"

You will need to complete Form SS-5, Application for a Social Security Card (PDF). You also must submit evidence of your identity, age, and U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status. For more information please see the Social Security web site.

Form SS-5 is also available by calling 1-800-772-1213 or visiting your local Social Security office. These services are free.

The above question is from the SS site.
